Why we need to address nutrition and wellness daily.
Life’s experiences can escalate and weigh on us, conceal our intentions for a better life, and lead to dissatisfaction. Along the way, we can become wounded and make stories around that. These stories are most often created by a young, vulnerable part of us that had no resources to help when the wound occurred. Weight gain and couch potato inactivity creep in and we may stop paying attention to your body. We may feel out of shape, uninspired and depressed. Poor eating habits can only further drag us down to the point where we might figure “why bother?”. In short, we can become uncomfortable in our own skin and our body image suffers.
Nutrition and exercise plays a huge role in the way we feel about ourselves because it is so tied to ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. We act like there is nothing we can do about it but there most certainly is! There is a radiant, authentic self within all of us that needs to be found, acknowledged and rediscovered.
Common maladies of the mind and body we might address include the following:
Eating-Based Issues: Binge Eating / Compulsive Overeating, Emotional Eating, Bulimia, and Food Addiction
Digestive Health: Irritable Bowel Syndrome [IBS]; Crohn's Disease; Ulcerative Colitis; Gluten Sensitivity, Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth [SIBO]; GERD/reflux)
How Wellness and Nutrition Consultations with Chef Portillo Work.
First, you will always be in a safe space. You become collaborators to partner on this journey toward the change you’d like to see. As your health and wellness counselor, she will provide a safe environment for you to see yourself as clearly as she sees you. She will listen to you, ask focused questions, acknowledge your gifts and strengths, reflect your fears and doubts, and challenge you to move toward the goals you set.
The first session is a nutrition assessment. This includes some preparation on your part. You will review medical history, eating patterns and preferences, ethical values, spiritual practices, and discussing your particular nutrition needs.
Your nutrition and wellness consultations focus on discovering what your body needs and being open to the parts of you that are involved in your relationship to food. Coupled with mindful eating and the experience of initiating action, you will find a peaceful place where every day you feel centered in yourself – clear, thoughtful and aware, fulfilled and accepting of who you are. You can live fully and unconditionally, nourishing your body in a healthy way that nourishes your spirit.
You will work together on this journey and she will be with every step of the way. You will create a sturdy foundation of hope using your rich history and experience in creating change in your relationship with food along with her expertise in understanding the various emotions involved in that relationship.
As a nutritionist, Chef Portillo will introduce you to the parts of you involved in your relationship with food, including emotional and stress eating. Together, you will continue to develop relationships with these parts to bring healing energy to them. In doing so, you will experience a shift and transformation around food and body. Together, your session will always end with an action plan a a clear path to the goal you seek. In follow-ups, you will review your progress based on goals and objectives that feel right to you and update your plan as needed. You will also look at barriers and resistance to moving forward.
The first month of coaching is $135. This includes the initial consultation and a plan of action with shopping lists and recipes designed specifically to address your needs.
Follow up consultations in subsequent months are charged at $115 per month and are designed to bring a self-sufficient lifestyle choice around food and what we eat.
